Hello, my name is Deborah Schmieder and I am the Principal of Hollam Solicitors. As I hope you will use our services, I think it only fair to let you know a little bit about me.
I was admitted onto the Roll of Solicitors in May 2004. I specialised in Family Law and Private Client work at several London firms before relocating with my family to Somerset in 2007.
My husband died suddenly in 2018 when my daughter was 12 years old. It was an extremely distressing time for us. I was determined, however, to support us both and after 14 years as a qualified solicitor I made the daunting decision to set up on my own and after covid I obtained my licence as a Sole Practitioner in February 2021. I called my firm Hollam Solicitors after the name of the cottage I had lived in with my husband in Bridgetown.
I have loved living and working in West Somerset and have met so many warm and friendly people. I have now relocated to Watchet and have a branch office in Williton.

Hello – I am Amanda and I qualified as a solicitor in 1987 with a first class LLB from University College London & LLM from Emmanuel College Cambridge.
I set up and managed my own law firm, Benhams, for many years, specialising in real estate matters especially commercial, and residential leasehold, the licensed trade, commons & village greens, parish and town councils and unusual property-related situations.
Known for establishing excellent long-standing client relationships and a pragmatic, no-nonsense commercial approach to problem solving and achieving completion of transactions to tight deadlines. Since October 2024 I have been working with Hollam Solicitors as a Consultant.
Hello, I am Jerry and I am the Business Manager here at Hollam Solicitors. I have been working for the firm for about 12 months, developing the business and supporting Deborah to ensure that we provide the best services for our customers.
I had previously worked in Local Government for 25 years. For the past few years, I led teams responsible for customer service and transformation at Assistant Director level. I have been delighted to be able to work with Deborah to ensure that Hollam Solicitors is able to provide a modern, approachable service for the local community. As we grow, we are committed to always putting our clients first.
I obtained my honours degree in housing and development and have worked for various organisations in Bristol, Norwich, Forest of Dean and Somerset. I also volunteer for a homelessness charity in Bristol. Having been born and brought up in Somerset, it is fantastic to be settled back in my home county and, in particular, close to the incredible beauty of Exmoor and the coastline.
